How to grow your stubstack
I'm tired of these
Hey, so I hate these.
Well, now I do. At first I thought they could be helpful. I could learn how Substack works while building an audience. Sounds simple enough, right?
Wrong!
I regret ever clicking on the few I did. I won't dismiss every article I read because most of them were good. The problem I had was that almost every article in my home feed started to become about how get rich quick through Substack nd basically how to stay relevant on here.
Well…I don't care about vitality or manufacturing my relevance.
I have since figured out a different approach to writing and Substack that doesn't require a 32 step program.
I realize that the same tactics I use to get promoted at work will work here;
Work hard consistently.
Be authentic.
Focus on quality over quantity.
Make the value of what I'm offering obvious/hard to dismiss.
Show interest in other areas you truly want to explore.
I didn't follow some of my own rules recently because my mother died in May and it has taken some time to actually start reading and writing again. Because of that, my posts section in my profile may show me as a hypocrite who can't be trusted.
Still, I think I'll follow my own advice. It's tried and true and hasn't steered me wrong yet. It's also transferable to the writing space. Yes, it is a long game, but it's not really a game is it? It's an honest and sustainable way of demonstrating my skill while also showing who I am, while marching to the beat of my own drum.
I would go into more details about why that is, but I have to get ready for an 8:30 AM indoor cycling class soon. For the record, I hate them, but I secretly wish I did them more.
Until next time!
